FIBERS 🥝 – Do you know they’re important? Do you know HOW important they are? And are you eating enough of them DAILY? Here are my tips and tricks ✨. Click through the slides above or check out the points below to find out what you NEED to know about fibers!
What are they?
Fibers are a type of carbohydrate which our bodies can’t digest. There are 2 types – soluable, which dissolve in water, and insoluble fibers.
What are they good for?
Ironically, because fibers cannot be digested they help move food through our digestive system.
They then:
- Bind fluid & help us feel full
- Help our digestion & feed the friendly bacteria in our stomach & intestine
- This keeps our stomach flora well fed which is so important to overall health! Even mood & mental health 🤍
- Fiber even appear to lower risk for heart disease, diabetes & can be anti-inflammatory!
Are you getting enough of them?
An adult is recommended to get in 25-35 grams of fibers daily!
Some people can experience digestion issues, if so, it’s important to identify which fibers cause this & how those are prepared/cooked.
In any case, fibers are a super important carb to eat DAILY!
How can I up my intake?
A few suggestions to add to your meals!
- Berries (blue, rasp, straw)
- Fruits (kiwis, apples & less ripe bananas)
- Seeds (chia, flax, sunflower)
- Avocados (deserves its own spot!)
- Whole grains (oats, brown rice, quinoa, whole-wheat)
- Green leaves (spinach, broccoli, kale)
- Legumes (beans, chickpeas, lentils, peas)
…and remember to drink water to help your body flush them through!
Before I did my PT course I really never thought much about these carbohydrates, but now I try to add some fibers into every meal and they truly help my digestion and overall health! 🥰
